Who Am I ???

*I was classically bred in Kentucky. Who knows how good my sire would have been if his career had not been cut short.

*A favorite with the bettors, I was favored in nearly 80% of my races and I won more than 60% of the time..

*Undefeated as a juvenile, my largest margin of victory came in my first career start.

*In my biggest career victory, I left the Kentucky Derby winner well behind.

*My elderly trainer worked for my well known owners for many, many years.

*My Kentucky Derby story was that there was no story.

*I finished 3rd in my final career start, which was the richest race I ever ran in.

*I never ran on turf or synthetics, and my worst career race was on a sloppy track.

*I ran in six different states in my career and I was victorious in each of those states.

*My conditioner was best known for his fillies; I may have been his most talented colt.

*I was bet down to below even money in more than half of my races including a Triple Crown race.

You should know by now … Who Am I ???

  8. I figured out enough that it is a horse who was favored in the Preakness, but that is it.

  17. In 1982, he suprisingly skipped the Derby, and was 1-2 in the Preakness. Linkage ran 2nd that day, and was favored in the Belmont, but was badly beaten in the slop by Conquistador Cielo (who was an earlier guess.)

  18. Kind of embarrassing when I'm up against such educated racing fans.

I search Google for "preakness odds-on favorites".

In one result's content, I saw the line "...Not too flattering as Easy Goer, Swale and Linkage all failed to hit the wire first...".

I knew of course the first two, but never heard of Linkage. Another quick Google search ("linkage (horse) preakness") leads me to an article from May 14th, 1982 in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette describing how Derby winner Gato del Sol won't be facing the rested Linkage, explaining to me how a Derby non-runner could be Preakness favorite.

A final Google search ('linkage "gato del sol"') and I see Linkage had beaten GDS before; that ticked enough clue-boxes to enter the quiz :D

All in all, took about 5 minutes. Sorry everyone :S

  19. LOL, and...it was as easy as that!

Robin, big congratulations! Wear your Who Am I ??? crown proudly, and come back next week to try to defend.

  20. Thanks! I will wear this proudly. I will also fully expect to be dethroned next week.

Unless you focus on "Irish Novice hurdlers from the early 1990s". Then I might be in with a squeak.
