*I raced in two countries, but never in the country where I was bred.
*I won more than half of my lifetime races and averaged more than $200,000 in earnings per start.
*I did not do much in my first start, but after that, I ran well in every single race.
*My dear, departed papa ran in all three legs of the Triple Crown.
*After my biggest career win, I went winless in three tries the rest of that season.
*I defeated two Horses of the Year in my career.
*My stakes wins had a five furlong spread between the shortest and the longest.
*I was ridden by only one jockey in my final season, although I was ridden to victory by six different riders in my career.
*I won races at seven different racetracks in six different states.
*My trainer is no longer a trainer, and my most successful jockey is no longer a jockey, but they are both still involved in the sport.
*I went out a winner; my final two starts were graded stakes victories.
You should know by now … Who Am I ???
Just to get things started, Plenty of Grace?
ReplyDeleteNo Sir. The answer is not Plenty of Grace.
ReplyDeleteProud Truth?
ReplyDeleteSorry Michael, 0 for 2.
ReplyDeleteFor no other reason other that I heard Pat Day talk about him when describing his ride on Easy Goer in the Preakness, I'll guess Houston.
ReplyDeleteangel cordero......for sure
ReplyDeleteI thought Jon Veitch for the trainer but I can't find any of his horses that fit all the criteria.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
ReplyDeleteOK...now I need a translator!
ReplyDeleteHouston, we do not have the right answer.
Veitch...No
Cordero...No
his majesty
ReplyDeleterocket man
ReplyDeleteSorry, not His Majesty or Rocket Man.
ReplyDeleteBrian,
ReplyDeleteThe horse that came to my mind is Farda Amiga. No googleing here just a guess.
Hmmmm....Did you officially rule out Alydar yet?
ReplyDeleteIt is not Farda Amiga.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see you commenting on ZAAT, Michael. The best of luck to your horse in the Sunshine Millions Classic!
It is not Alydar as the horse, or as the sire, but good guess with the sire.
ReplyDeleteSadler's Wells?
ReplyDeleteDarn....earnings does not fit for Sadler's Wells.
ReplyDeleteI pretty much know it is wrong, but I got to put a guess in. Thought I had it till I looked at earnings. Gallant Man?
ReplyDeleteYes Tim, earnings per start pretty much kill Gallant Man as a possibility. As a matter of fact, earnings have not fit any of today's guesses.
ReplyDeleteYes, earnings has been the stumbling block for sure!
ReplyDeleteMichael H, you certainly win the perseverance award!
ReplyDeleteCan you send me some Tylenol!
ReplyDeleteThis is supposed to be a pleasurable experience. LOL
ReplyDeleteRemember if no one solves this by 3pm Central, a new clue will be dispensed.
Bayakoa?? Another "guess" cause I'm pretty sure I have ruled it out on my own, but it's all I got. Back to work for me. :(
ReplyDeleteAs I think you already know Tim, Bayakoa is incorrect.
ReplyDeleteWithout a shred of research to back this up...Street Cry came into my mind. I can't even remember who the hell his sire is, LOL....but I know he was bred in IRE, never raced there (that I recall) and has the earnings and that retired Bailey in his US history.
ReplyDelete~Marti
pedigreequery.com is down...too many ZATT peeps on it!
ReplyDeleteGood guess Marti, but no cigar. The answer is not Street Cry.
ReplyDeleteCiaran - LOL
Victory Gallop
ReplyDeleteMarti, you are the Queen for a week! It is Victory Gallop, the top-notch runner of the late 90s. Trained by Elliot Walden, and ridden by Jerry Bailey in his final season, the 1998 Belmont Stakes winner was sired by Cryptoclearance, who like his son, ran in each leg of the Triple Crown. Well done Marti!!!
ReplyDeleteHmmmmm.....I saw Victory Gallop but according to Wikipedia, the earnings per start did not compute:
ReplyDeleteVictory Gallop
Sire Cryptoclearance
Grandsire Fappiano
Dam Victorious Lil
Damsire Vice Regent
Sex Stallion
Foaled 1995
Country Canada
Colour Bay
Breeder Tall Oaks Farm
Owner Prestonwood Farm
Trainer W. Elliott Walden
Record 17: 9-5-1
Earnings $3,005,895
Michael's right...$200k per START is inaccurate, and what threw me to, so much so I even questioned you on it Brian. $200k per stakes win maybe, but not start
ReplyDeletePedigreequery says started 17 times and won $3,505,895... in which case , the clues are right.. http://www.pedigreequery.com/index.php?query_type=progeny&search_bar=progeny&h=CRYPTOCLEARANCE&sort=Earnings&done=y&filter=All%20Horses&cf= what 3 races came after his belmont?
ReplyDeleteFolks, who are you going to believe, wikipedia or me??? Wikipedia is often wrong.
ReplyDeleteVictory Gallop's lifetime earnings were over $3.5 million, making all the clues, once again correct. Here is one of the places to see the correct earnings: http://community.drf.com/files/victorygallop-1.pdf
Brian I am just so happy I finally got the damn thing, I don't care anymore, LOL...but I did bypass him three different times due to earnings, that's all I'm saying, and I was nowhere near Wikipedia, LOL
ReplyDeleteCiaran, he raced 3 more times that season: 2nd in the Haskell, 2nd by a nose in the Travers, and a fast closing 4th by a length in the BC Classic.
ReplyDeleteI just recorded the change in Wikipedia and changed the first 0 to a 5!
ReplyDeleteWell done Michael...you are reinstated back to ZATT with full privelages!
ReplyDeleteDone with meetings at work and what do I find, already solved of course, but bold enough to admit that it wouldn't have mattered anyway because I was nowhere near Victory Gallop. Good job Marti!
ReplyDeleteand my first trainer was?
ReplyDeleteand my first stakes win where?
I am at stud in Turkey -- what conformational flaws did I pass on that saw me leave Lexington?
I can alreay see that somebody has gotten it by some of the congrats comments made, but I will still guess and you all can tell me it I was at least on track. Victory Gallop???
ReplyDeleteSorry Brian that I didn't get to guess earlier. My week has been heck and I finally got the time to take my medicine, my horses, lol. When I got back I was beat, but happy, but, sorry, forgot it was WAI today.
